Song of the Week: "House of Myth" by Creature Feature

Imagine a 90s metal band, a la Dope or Coal Chamber, and give them a heavy dose of Oingo Boingo and the movie Killer Klowns from Outer Space

Imagine if Rob Zombie had a higher voice (and sang instead of growling) and had a love affair with carnival music and synthesizers. (Or.... more of one.)

The thing you're imagining is Los Angeles two-piece* Creature Feature, and they're a whole lot of fun. They have a song that you can download for free from their bandcamp page, but first, check out the video for the song "Buried Alive":

If you like it, drop a few dollars and download one of their albums. If you get the chance, catch them on their current tour. Their official site is here.  Let us know how you like them in the comments.

*The interwebs say they're a two-piece, even though there's a drummer in the video. Maybe he's not an official member? Maybe they used to be a two piece, and the interwebs just haven't updated?

UPDATE!

Haven't been writing much, because we've been writing, recording, and getting ready for shows. We've got a show coming up, and we've recorded three songs so far. We'll have CDs available at the show. You'll be hearing more from us soon!

Song of the Week: Motrendus

Every band with a blog is constantly apologizing for it being such a long time since the last time they posted. So I'll spare you that. There's a band we've met that rocks pretty hard and is made up of a few of the nicest, most genuine guys ever. If that wasn't enough, they're also doing everything they can to single-handedly revitalize and revolutionize the hard rock scene in the Raleigh area.

They've started a heavy open-mic at Volume 11 (the same place where we played with 9mm Disco) and the turnout has been great. They looked at the scene, weren't happy, and decided to fix it. I mean, who does that?

Meet Motrendus. They've got a show coming up at the Deep South Bar on February 25th, and I'll be there.

Band Photography! by John Shaw

You may remember the logo John Shaw did for us a while ago, if you're into remembering stuff like that. Well, it turns out that John is NOT a one-trick pony, but in fact does many tricks (and he isn't really a pony, either). He also takes great photographs. Great photographs of bands like Earths Collide, for example:

Me with the King of the Space Council and a wonderful view of Saturn behind me.

Tyler, just before the light tentacles sucked out his brain.

This will probably be the cover of our "Garage Days Revisited" album.

You wouldn't like me when I'm angry...

Zach looking like he's wearing a mask.

Zach rocking out so hard even his drums are blurry.

EsC from up high.

See the guy in the turban behind us? He's totally a Grand Vizier.

John also photographs other bands, as well as lots of other things. You can see some of them at http://www.flyingmstudios.com. He deserves a raise, and a high five, and probably a beer. When we're ready to do a series of promo pics, he's the guy we're gonna call.

Song of the Week: Metroid Theme by Metroid Metal

I've spent a lot of time looking for geeky hard rock and SF bands, and I've found bucketloads of them. I'm working on the slow, slow process of starting a playlist and wiki about it, but today's about a genre that comprises a holy metric ΓΌber-ton of music made for and by those inclined to geekiness: Video game music

There are a lot of big names, and it's primarily metal versions of NES songs. We've decided to showcase Metroid Metal, though, mostly because Zach (EsC's drummer) totally knows the guy. How cool is that? The correct answer is, of course, "pretty flippin' cool".

Metroid Metal, by the way, started out as one single guy, but has grown to include an entire live band. They even have a live CD you can buy. You can download most of their songs for free on the site, or buy a CD, or make a donation to get a lossless quality CD.

So, without further ado, here's an awesome metal version of the classic Metroid theme, courtesy of Metroid Metal:

If you like them, like them on facebook, follow them on twitter, and support them by buying a CD or making a donation :)

Song of the Week: "Prehistoric Dog" by Red Fang

The EsC related news may be a little sparse for the next several weeks, as we're busy writing and recording. We'll let you know anything of interest that happens. Song of the Week is still going strong, though, with "Prehistoric Dog" by Red Fang.
This is one of those videos that you're sure to see eventually. It's practically metal's answer to Okgo. (See also their other video, "Wires".)
Red Fang fits in a space that's Mastodon and Monster Magnet meet your inner redneck, and decide that he's a guy who would be way fun to hang out with. Their videos are all beer, gore, explosions, and power tools. What's not to like?

     Check them out at www.redfang.net.

Song of the Week: "Light Up the Night" by Protomen

We're always on the lookout for new and exciting nerd rock bands, and a name that's come up several times since befriending Urizen and D&D Sluggers is.... Protomen.

Based out of Nashville, TN, these rockers extraordinaire have been thoroughly exploring themes from Megaman. Seriously. As in, all of their songs are about some aspect of the Megaman universe. That's flipping awesome.

Since I'm still learning about them, I don't really feel qualified to write more, especially when you can hear "Light Up the Night" below, then look them up on Wikipedia, then visit their homepage where you can hear a lot more songs, and download "Light Up the Night" for free.
